CAPE TOWN - Cape Town Police say an alleged Belhar gang leader is among those arrested over the weekend.

The suspect was involved in a shoot-out with officers before being taken into custody yesterday.

He remains in hospital under police guard.

A 14-year old girl is also recovering in hospital after she was wounded in the shooting.

At the same time, two Lingelethu men are among the suspects arrested in a special crime operation over the weekend.

The duo were found in possession of a police-issue bulletproof vest and three other vests which had been stolen during a hijacking in Kleinvlei.

South African Police Service officers also confiscated identity documents, bank cards and two stolen cellphones during the search operation.

In Blue Downs, police arrested three suspects for selling alcohol without a licence.

All the suspects will be appearing in various Cape Town courts this week.
