DA's Steenhuisen stands by claim Mahlobo behind Chief Justice office break-in

JOHANNESBURG – Democratic Alliance Chief Whip John Steenhuisen says he's standing by his statement that State Security Minister David Mahlobo was behind the burglary at Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng’s offices after high-profile cases were heard last week.

Early on Saturday morning, thieves stole 15 computers containing sensitive information, including the personal details of the country’s judges.

On Friday, the High Court in Pretoria ruled that Berning Ntlemeza's appointment as head of the Hawks was illegal, while the Constitutional Court handed down judgment in the social grants matter.

Steenhuisen says the fact this theft came just after Friday’s rulings shows there must be a political motive at work.
He says his money would be on Mahlobo as the person responsible.

But the African National Congress’ Zizi Kodwa says Steenhuisen shouldn't jump to judgment.

Other groups are now calling for a completely independent investigation into the robbery.
