Syrian army ‘recaptures’ Palmyra from Islamic State

JOHANNESBURG - Syria's military has announced that it’s fully recaptured the historic town of Palmyra from the Islamic State group for the second time in a year.

The army statement released on Thursday evening says government forces are now in control of the town.

It goes on to say the recapture was accomplished through the help of Russian air cover and in co-operation with 'allied and friendly troops', that's shorthand for Lebanese Hezbollah fighters.
