JOHANNESBURG – A court’s decision to release Alberton debt collector Danie Olivier on R5,000 bail has been met with outrage.
Olivier handed himself over to police on Friday for the murder of Ludi Vink, who died after being stabbed with a pool cue at Mitzy’s Biker Pub in Randhart on Tuesday night.
Following his release, there was widespread outrage at the decision by a Palm Ridge Court as a result.
But police say that his decision to hand himself over was a contributing factor as it shows he is not a flight risk.
Olivier is scheduled to reappear in court in April.
Meanwhile, Vink’s organs have been donated to eight people.
He will be cremated and his ashes scattered in Jeffrey’s Bay where he loved to surf and will also be taken to Australia where his fiancé lives.
A memorial service will be held for the artist next week Tuesday.
