CAPE TOWN - Metrorail management says it will take several months to complete repair work to infrastructure on its southern line damaged in a recent collision.

At the weekend, a truck ploughed into level crossing booms, severely damaging signalling equipment. It has affected services in Retreat, Muizenberg and Fish Hoek.

Metrorail's Richard Walker says a charge of malicious damage to property has been laid against the truck driver
He adds that the repair work will take time.

“The preliminary report came back from the technical team on Monday. What we are looking at will take between two and eight months to repair for the damage. For this morning, we were able to run all trains through Fish Hoek.”
