Makhubu family wants more DNA tests

JOHANNESBURG - Arts and Culture Minister Paul Mashatile says the family of Mbuyisa Makhubu believes the man found in a Canadian prison is their missing brother despite DNA results proving otherwise. Makhubu was the man featured in the iconic picture of the 1976 Soweto uprising carrying a lifeless Hector Pieterson. He has not been seen since and it has been suggested that he is the South African man detained in Canada on immigration offences. Mashatile says Makhubu's family want to conduct their own tests. “The outcome of the DNA test was negative. The family then indicated to me it would like to do further verifications. When I went to see them they said they still believe it's him.”
